Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness reveals he’s taking weight-loss shots to regain ‘control over eating’
Netflix favorite Jonathan Van Ness has spoken for the first time about his experience with Ozempic-like diet pills.
Via Instagram, the Queer Eye star told their 5.4 million followers that they needed to make a “confession,” admitting that they were “taking a GLP-1 drug or weight loss drug.”
GLP-1 is the hormone that Ozempic and other weight loss medications mimic.
Known as GLP-1 agonists, the drugs increase the feeling of fullness, reducing the amount of food a user consumes.
The hairstylist, 37, has been open about weight fluctuations in recent years.
In 2022, Van Ness, who identifies as non-binary, told his 1 million TikTok followers about losing two and a half stone by exercising and improving their diet with the help of a nutritionist.
In the latest post, Van Ness said, “If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’ve gained and lost weight several times, very publicly.
“And at this time in my life, I knew I needed a little extra help.
‘Because of everything I’ve been through publicly and privately in recent years, I gained a lot of weight, I didn’t feel well and, most importantly, my binge eating disorder spiraled out of control.

‘I was constantly making decisions that I regretted. The impulsive eating and binge eating really made me feel unwell, depressed and out of control.”
They added: ‘I talked to my doctor about it, and he told me about GLP-1, which I tried a pill version of a few years ago, and that didn’t work for me.
‘So now it was like, “let’s try one of the shots.”
‘This was in September and I immediately felt better. For the first time in my life I have control over my food intake.
“It’s helped me so much and that’s part of the reason why I want to be so honest with you, because I know how important asking for help is and how much it can change your life in terms of healing.
‘Now I’m thinking. Can people abuse these drugs? How do you gain weight and how do you get rid of it? So, so many questions!’
The TV favorite previously opened up about their battle with binge eating – one of the most common eating disorders.
The condition involves episodes of compulsive and excessive eating, often to the point of physical pain or extreme discomfort.
In an Instagram post shared in October 2022, Van Ness said: “Always been a hot and sexy slut, but at the same time also struggled with binge eating disorder for a long time.
‘I got help in April, after years of feeling out of control over food.’
They added: ‘It’s been interesting because I now prioritize making time to eat, planning to eat and actually eating. It used to be my lowest priority, leaving me so hungry that I would binge whenever I ate.
‘This has been and will continue to be a healing journey for which I am grateful.’
