Two lucky gamblers started the new year as billionaires after buying winning lottery tickets, but they don’t know it yet.

A dozen players shared in Australia’s division one jackpot in the $40 million Gold Lotto draw on Saturday, each winning $3.3 million.

There were four in Queensland and Victoria, three in NSW and one in Western Australia.

Four Queenslanders, including a man from Forest Lake and a mother from Loganholme, celebrated the new year after realizing they had won.

The Forest Lake man said he couldn’t sleep after checking his ticket and realizing he had become a billionaire.

“I don’t normally check my ticket right away, but Saturday night I thought I’d take a quick look,” he told an official from The Lott.

‘Then I started to scroll and I could see all six numbers lit up. We didn’t sleep much that night. We just couldn’t believe it. It’s quite surreal. What a New Year’s Eve gift!

The Brisbane resident said the prize money was life-changing for him and his wife as they plan to pay off their mortgage and help their children get “a foot in life.”

The Loganholme woman who had bought two tickets in the $40 million drawing said she won $35 on one and netted $3.3 million on the other.

“At first I checked another ticket and I won $35 on that one,” he explained.

‘I was quite happy with it. So I checked this ticket! It was a nice surprise! A good way to start the New Year.

The mother said she still had to decide what she would do with her millions, but before she could win, she wanted to pay off her house and change her career.

However, two lucky Queenslanders have yet to show up with their winning tickets.

The two winning tickets were sold at Nextra Orion, Shop 29, 1 Main Street in Orion Springfield and Julia Creek News on Burke Street in Julia Creek.
