Locals are outraged after a ‘secret’ watering hole was exposed online, sparking fears it would be overrun by tourists.

A fierce debate erupted online on Monday over a social media post showing a picturesque waterhole just an hour’s drive from Brisbane’s CBD.

Two photos on Reddit showed the tranquil bush setting in Northbrook Gorge in D’Aguilar National Park.

The first photo features a sparkling rock pool surrounded by lush greenery, while the second photo shows three hikers walking between two gigantic rock walls.

Reddit users criticized the post, claiming that the poster had given away a secret location and that it would now be overrun by tourists

“How could I not have known about this place,” the message read.

Social media users quickly jumped in and slammed the post, claiming the poster had given away a secret location and that it would now be overrun by tourists.

“Well you’re done and screwed up now,” one person wrote.

“Mods should do a public service and remove this so it stays secret,” another suggested.

The post sparked a long string of sarcastic ideas about how people should visit the tranquil spot.

“I’m going there now with my speakers and coronas,” someone wrote.

“Don’t forget to: throw away your used TP on the track, leave your rubbish behind, deface the rock walls, make new shortcuts 2 meters before the switchbacks,” joked another.

“I’ll take a few packs of cigarettes and a few buds,” said a third, to which someone replied: “We’ll throw our stolen garden hose and iced coffee Breaka bottled water into the trees and as an offering to the forest spirit bros Bruv…!”

However, one Redditor disagreed with those making jokes, saying they had “an absolutely terrible attitude.”

“Let people enjoy nature, doomer,” they said.

In response, another user pointed out that there are “a lot of people” who “disrespect nature.”

“The more a place is advertised and shared on social media, the more people come, the more waste is thrown away at the site and the greater the damage caused to the environment,” they wrote.

“If you just verbally share your secret spots with your close friends, it takes much longer for word to spread and places to be overrun.

‘BUT then you miss out on internet points and likes on social media.’

Another user explained that the place was unlikely to attract large crowds due to its remoteness.

‘It’s a nice place. Especially nice if it’s a hot, humid day and you reach that spot where you have to swim to continue. The water is so beautiful there,” they said.

‘Fortunately, because it is a fairly extensive walk that involves being dropped off/picked up (or a long walk back to the car), it usually only attracts people who are serious about bushwalking and are therefore less likely to go for a walk. to throw it away.’
