Dad recalls horrifying moment he was slashed by machete-wielding gang during a violent home invasion in Brisbane

A father who was slashed several times with a machete during a home invasion says he feels lucky to have survived the terrifying ordeal.

Steve Ngabunga, 30, was in his unit at Logan Central in Brisbane’s south when three men kicked in his door just after 7.30pm on Sunday.

Two of the men, armed with machetes, severed Mr Nuabunga’s leg and hand as they chased him throughout the unit.

Terrified and bleeding, Mr Ngagunga said he thought this was the end after the trio cornered him on the balcony and in his bedroom.

“Some of them held the door open and I said, ‘No, I’m dying here, there’s no place to run,’” he said. 9News.

“I’m so glad I’m still breathing right now, maybe I should be dead by now.”

Fortunately for Mr Ngagunga, the intruders decided to abandon the burglary and left in a van before officers could arrive.

His roommate had jumped from the balcony of the two-story building.

Mr Nguyunga was taken to Logan Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening stab wounds to his hand and leg.

After spending a night in hospital, he was discharged without serious physical injuries and was forced to return to the scene of the crime.

‘I was very scared. Even now I am very scared. “I’m not safe here,” he said Monday.

It is understood that the three men were white.
