Queen Máxima of the Netherlands is a hit with the kids as she high-fives schoolchildren while opening The King’s Games in Hoofddorp

Queen Máxima was present today at the King’s Games in Hoofddorp, where she was a great success with the children.

The Dutch royal, 52, and her husband King Willem-Alexander, 56, were in good spirits as they met with students from KBS Klippeholm and CBS Vesterhavet in the northwestern province.

The royal couple were elegantly dressed for the occasion, opting for chic leather and a suit respectively – a fitting choice in view of the king’s 56th birthday tomorrow.

The royals were received enthusiastically by the primary school students – and they seemed particularly excited when they saw Máxima giving them a high five in their classrooms.

The mother-of-three was also pictured sitting at the lunch tables with the students as they snacked on sandwiches, fruit and water in the school canteen.

Elsewhere, the King and Queen stepped outside to observe what appeared to be an exciting friendly game of football.

For the event, the Argentine-born royal wore a pair of high-waisted chocolate brown culottes, which served to accentuate her curvaceous figure.

Maxima paired the look with a gray high-neck sweater and brown leather boots, while for outdoors she opted for a long gray overcoat.

A pair of silver metal earrings were the perfect accessory, although she opted to forgo a handbag on this occasion.

For her hair, the royal’s luscious blonde locks were tied down and adorned only with a center parting.

Her makeup was as subtle as it was striking, with a streak of black eyeliner and a pink lip to complete the look.

Meanwhile, her husband, the King, looked dapper in a royal blue suit which he wore with a crisp white shirt and orange tie.

His outfit was a bold statement of national pride as it represented the colors of the Dutch flag, but was also synonymous with King’s Day.

King Willem-Alexander will celebrate his 56th birthday tomorrow on April 27, but official plans for a celebration have yet to be announced.

The whole country is expected to celebrate with street parties, music and a range of games.

The King’s Games, which traditionally take place before King’s Day, are a fun way to kick off royal celebrations.

More than 1.5 million children in 7,500 schools across the country will play sports and exercise as part of the games, as they enjoy a day of health and fun instead of lessons.

The royal couple appeared jovial during their visit and were spotted greeting school teachers and enthusiastically playing with students.

The news comes while Queen Máxima met with the President of Nigeria in The Hague yesterday.

The royal, 52, looked elegant as she ushered in spring in a stunning blue satin pantsuit for a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 72.

The fresh, fitted blazer is accentuated at the waist and creates a refined silhouette.

She met the President at the Palace as part of her role as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.

Her role includes being a leading global voice in promoting universal access to and responsible use of affordable, effective and secure financial services.

The queen opted to blow-dry her blonde locks into a sleek, straight look and wear a pair of dazzling gold and black earrings.

To accessorize, Maxima showed off her bling and wore a watch with a black leather strap, stacked with gold diamond bracelets.

She went for a glamorous makeup look with smokey eyeshadow, a touch of eyeliner and mascara and glossy red lip gloss.

Maxima posed next to President Tinubu at the palace, but they had a furry friend who stole the show: the queen’s white pup, Mambo.

In the photos, the three-year-old dog was seen sharing a chair with Maxima and standing next to the couple to pose for the camera.

Her husband, King Willem-Alexander, looked friendly in a suit as he also met the president at the Palace.

The 56-year-old wore a black blazer, matching smart trousers, a patterned tie, a crisp white shirt and a handkerchief.

It is believed that President Tinubu had separate meetings with the King and Queen. He was invited to the Netherlands by the country’s president, Mark Rutte.

While in the Netherlands, the President of Nigeria spoke about collaborations and partnerships between the two countries.

This includes agriculture and water management with a view to innovative solutions for sustainable agricultural practices.
