Queen Mary’s nephew Count Nikolai delivers the ultimate backhanded compliment as he reveals what he REALLY thinks of Australians
Queen Mary’s cousin Count Nikolai has revealed his shocked opinion of Australia after spending six months studying at Sydney University of Technology.
The Danish royal family member, 24, appeared on the latest cover of the men’s lifestyle magazine GQ Hype and told the publication his surprising take.
“When I think of Australians, I picture a mullet and a mustache, and very sporty, active people,” he began.
‘Like the Danes, we are all quite relaxed. I think every Dane, anywhere in the world, finds Australia quite fascinating because it’s so far away, it’s quite exotic.’
However, he added that after living in Sydney for several months in 2023, his preconceptions about life Down Under changed dramatically after some friends took him to the AFL to watch the Swans play.

‘It was fun. It was very entertaining to see a new sport that I had not experienced before. Obviously you supported the home team and they won, they were behind, so it was a good comeback!’
The Copenhagen native is expanding his modeling career and recently became the face of Danish luxury jewelry brand Georg Jensen.
Nikolai oozed confidence and style as he showed off his best assets in luxurious Burberry fashion for his GQ photoshoot, looking every bit the supermodel in training.
In March, Count Nikolai of Denmark launched a new Instagram account to promote his modeling career after being stripped of his ‘HRH’ status by his grandmother, Queen Margrethe.
It’s been a tumultuous year for the Danish royal family after the monarch controversially took the title from Prince Joachim’s eldest son, as well as the titles of prince and princess from his younger children Athena, 11, Prince Felix, 20, and Prince Henrik. 13.
