Queen Mary of Denmark shares sweet portrait of daughter Princess Isabella – with her adorable dog – to mark her 17th birthday

Queen Mary of Denmark has shared heartwarming photos of her daughter Princess Isabella to mark her 17th birthday.

The royal, 52, shared the photos on the household’s official Instagram and said she would be celebrating her special day with both her family and friends.

Isabella, also the daughter of King Frederick X, beamed as she posed next to their Border Collie named Cocoa.

The teen looked stylish and wore a simple white T-shirt, a stylish beige trench coat and a pair of hoop earrings.

She also wore a gold chain with a pendant in the shape of the letter B – suggesting her friends and family call her ‘Bella’.

The caption, originally in Danish, read: ‘Her Royal Highness Princess Isabella has a birthday and turns 17 today.

‘On the occasion of her birthday, Her Majesty The Queen has taken new photos of the princess with Coco, one of the dogs of the royal family. The princess is celebrating her birthday with family and friends.’

Isabella wore her brunette locks in a blow-dry wave and opted for simple, natural makeup with a hint of blush.

The Palace shared two images of the schoolgirl in front of a colorful piece of art, which complemented her neutral, elegant ensemble.

In the first photo, she can be seen grinning as she puts her arm around Cocoa, while the second featured a more serious monochrome photo of the pair.

Fans rushed to the comments to wish the princess a happy birthday and comment on the beautiful images shared by the family.

One wrote: ‘Happy 17th birthday and I hope you and your family and friends have a great day.’

A third said: ‘Happy 17th birthday Isabella! I hope you have a nice day.’

Isabella shares the same birthday as the late Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96.

Her grandmother, Queen Margrethe of Denmark, celebrated her 84th birthday earlier this week on April 16.

The palace also shared photos of the queen in a beautiful lilac dress next to her beloved sausage dog Tilia, who used to belong to her late husband Prince Henrik.

The photos were taken at Fredensborg Castle, the same place where the Danish royal family celebrated their birthday privately.

The royal residence is a setting used only for important family events such as weddings, silver wedding anniversaries and birthdays.

The former monarch had a hectic few months as she shocked the nation by announcing her abdication during her live television segment on New Year’s Eve.

Just a fortnight later, Margrethe, who ruled for 52 years, abdicated at a meeting of the Council of State and her son Frederik was crowned King of Denmark.

She said one of the reasons she chose to give up the throne was because of her health problems, adding that she underwent surgery on her in February 2023.

She said: ‘It went well, thanks to the expert healthcare staff who looked after me. Naturally, the operation also gave rise to reflection on the future: whether it was time to leave the responsibility to the next generation.’

It has been agreed that she will remain known as Her Majesty Queen Margrethe and can step in as regent when King Frederik, Queen Mary and Crown Prince Christian are abroad, ill or on holiday.
