Ahoy there! Queen Mary of Denmark looks cheerful in nautical strips as she takes a solo walk during royal tour of Oslo – after an ‘awkward’ outing with King Frederik

The Danish royal family is undergoing a joint state visit to Norway, but yesterday Queen Mary of Denmark was photographed without her husband.

Earlier in the day, Mary, 52, appeared in good spirits as she joined King Frederick X, 52, and Queen Sonja of Norway, 86, for a stroll along the harbor promenade in Oslo.

The mother-of-four was seen chatting to Frederik while donning chic clothes, including a navy blue maxi skirt, white shirt and straw fedora.

Later that day, after the outfit changed to a striped top and jeans, Mary appeared alone at the same location, looking cheerful as she waved to onlookers.

It comes after rumors of marital tensions, which have gained momentum since Frederik’s night out with Mexican socialite Genoveva Cassanova.

Queen Mary of Denmark was photographed on Wednesday during the two-day state visit to Norway without her husband, King Frederick X.

The mother of four took off her flowing skirt and put on a pair of comfortable blue jeans, paired with a striped sweatshirt.

Mary put on a cheerful face and walked along the boardwalk, smiling awkwardly and waving at the camera.

It is unclear whether the couple will carry out all official duties during the state visit together, or whether some will be solo.

The couple have tried to present a united front in the wake of the affair rumors that rocked the Danish royal family late last year.

The couple, who had a turbulent end to 2023 when photos of King Frederik and Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova were released, presented a united front during their visit to the forests of Østmarka

In October 2023, Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova was photographed enjoying a night out with King Frederick in Madrid that lasted until the early hours – with Queen Mary noticeably absent.

The pair reportedly visited a Picasso exhibition together before sharing an intimate dinner at Spanish magazine El Corral de la Moreria Lectures reported. The publication reported that Genoveva and Frederik, 55, did not leave the restaurant until 1 a.m.

Genoveva, 47, later denied the “malicious” rumors that questioned the nature of her relationship with King Frederick, insisting the pair were not in a romantic relationship. King Frederik has not yet commented on the subject.

Despite Genoveva firmly denying the rumors surrounding her and Frederik, they show no signs of slowing down, according to the Spanish magazine HELLO report that the king has returned to Madrid since the scandalous photos were released and has kept a low profile.

The publication states that it is unclear whether the king returned to Spain for ‘private or agenda reasons’.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Frederik and Mary continued their Norwegian tour with a visit to the picturesque forests of Østmarka, during which the couple were photographed in front of the beautiful Ulsrudvannet Lake.

The royals arrived in Norway on Tuesday on the day of their twentieth wedding anniversary. But instead of sharing an intimate evening to celebrate the milestone, they got straight to work with an extensive state dinner hosted by King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway.

While Tuesday’s event was a formal affair, the couple looked relaxed in formal attire on Wednesday as they chatted in the serene surroundings before posing for photos with Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mett-Marit of Norway.

During the couple’s two-day visit to Norway, they kept to a busy travel schedule, leaving little time for the couple to reconnect despite their milestone anniversary.

Frederik and Mary arrived in Honnørbryggen on 14 May aboard the royal yacht Dannebrog, before attending the state banquet held in their honor with the Norwegian king and queen.

The trip to Lake Ulsrudvannet saw Queen Mary in a more relaxed ensemble than yesterday, when the royal family was pictured in an incredible gown for the glamorous evening event at the Royal Palace in Oslo.

In a nod to the couple’s 20th wedding anniversary, Queen Mary wore a dress designed by Birgit Hallstein, the Danish designer who designed her wedding dress in 2004.

After their trip to the forests of Østmarka, the couple attended a lunch with the Prime Minister and a tour of Oslo’s waterfront.

The new photos come after the couple made headlines over claims that a recently released photo of King Frederick and Queen Mary was photoshopped.

Royal guards questioned whether the official portrait, which was taken in the royal reception rooms of Christiansborg Palace, had been faked, claiming on social media that the “stiff and awkward” photo “looks as if they were photographed separately and then in have been put together’.

In response to the controversy, the Danish Palace released a statement saying: “The Royal’s official gala portrait has not been manipulated.”
