Queen Mary hides her face in first public appearance since horse riding injury – weeks after she was knocked to the ground by a rogue scooter

Queen Mary of Denmark was photographed just days after she suffered painful abrasions along her jawline in a horse riding accident.

The Australian-born Queen had carefully matched the plaster to her skin tone, but its rough texture was hard to miss as she arrived at the funeral of former steward Per Thornit in Copenhagen.

The large bandage covered a graze she sustained while riding, palace insiders said.

Mary has had to show her resilience recently after a series of accidents and near misses.

The horse-riding incident, which took place between royal tours of neighbouring countries in her home country, came just weeks after she was knocked to the ground in Greenland.

The 52-year-old woman was greeting fans in the capital Nuuk when she was hit by a scooter ridden by an elderly man.

Mary’s youngest children, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, were standing just metres away when the frost was knocked to the ground, much to the horror of onlookers.

King Frederik was also greeting his fans nearby when the dark gray scooter hit his wife, causing her to lose her balance.

The popular queen screamed as she fell and appeared exhausted after the incident, but managed to keep her composure once she got back on her feet.

Her guards quickly took action and made sure the scooter could not move any further.

The scooter driver seemed even more shocked than the queen after the incident, saying he “didn’t know what had happened.”

The old man said he wanted to extend his arm to Queen Mary in the hope that she would accept it, but instead he stepped on the gas pedal.

The Palace media team confirmed that Mary was not injured in the incident and was able to continue with her planned activities.

A spectator said the crowd was in shock after the incident.

“I saw how much it hurt her, her eyes started watering immediately. It must hurt to be hit at that speed. The police immediately barricaded her and removed her from the situation,” he said.
