Queen Mary suffers a rare style blunder as she steps out in the Danish capital – after a year of awkward and painful encounters at official events

Queen Mary of Denmark suffered an embarrassing but rare style blunder as she stepped out for an event in Copenhagen on Wednesday.

The Australian-born queen was all smiles as she arrived at Nordatlantens Beygge in the country’s capital, despite unknowingly smearing pink lipstick across her five front teeth.

Although she looked smart, the stains on her teeth were clearly visible in photos and no one seemed to inform the royal family in advance.

It is unknown how long the lipstick remained on Mary’s teeth, whether someone eventually pointed it out to her or whether she noticed it herself.

The 52-year-old opted for a chic business-casual outfit with high-waisted black trousers, a cream blouse and a black jacket with a pair of patent pumps with pointed heels and a small black clutch.

The mother-of-four attended the event with her husband King Frederick, 56, which was hosted by Iceland’s presidential couple, who are currently on a two-day state visit to the country.

President Halla Tómasdóttir’s trip to Denmark marks Frederik’s first state visit since he ascended the throne in January this year, following the historic abdication of his mother, Queen Margrethe II.

The latest blunder is the latest in a year of unfortunate events for Queen Mary, following a series of awkward incidents in public.

But the mother-of-four had unknowingly smeared pink lipstick on her five front teeth

In August, Mary hid her face for days after a horse riding accident left her with painful abrasions along her jawline.

She carefully matched her patch to her skin tone, but the rough texture was hard to miss when she arrived at the funeral of former justice Per Thornit in Copenhagen.

The large bandage covered an abrasion that palace insiders said was sustained while driving.

But that wasn’t all.

In July, Mary was left visibly shaken after a motorized scooter plowed through a crowd and knocked her to the ground during her royal visit to Greenland.

She was greeting fans in the capital Nuuk when she was hit by a scooter driven by an elderly man.

Mary’s youngest children, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, were just yards away when the monarch was knocked to the ground, horrifying onlookers.

The mother-of-four attended the event with her husband, King Frederik, 56, of Iceland’s presidential couple, who are currently on a two-day state visit to the country.

And on June 5, at the 175th anniversary of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Denmark, the Australian-born royal looked elegant in a wide-brimmed hat, which would have brought back some funny memories.

Mary has worn the coral hat twice since 2004 and both times she struggled to keep it on her head when faced with an unexpected breeze.

This time, however, the 52-year-old managed to keep the daring accessory safe, but looked quite uncomfortable the entire time.

The queen wore the hat, designed by milliner Susanne Juul, for the first time during a reception the day before she married Frederik.

Mary took the blunder in good humor and laughed when a guard reported the mistake back to her.

The mother of four wore the hat again in 2006 during a visit to the Danish island of Bornholm.
