Queen Letizia of Spain looks chic in smart casual ensemble

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain were joined today by their daughter Princess Leonor as they visited the winner of the Exemplary City of Asturias Award.

The Spanish royal family visited the parish of Cadavéu in Valdés on Saturday to celebrate the Princess of Asturias award, which has now been in existence for 33 years.

It is given to the city or village in Asturias ‘which has distinguished itself in a remarkable way in the defense and preservation of its natural, ecological environment, its historical and cultural heritage’.

The awards share their name with Princess Leonor, the princess of Asturias.

Queen Letizia opted for smart casual for today’s outing, in a striped black and white t-shirt and black tailored trousers. She completed her look with black leather shoes.

The Spanish royal, 50, wore her dark brown locks loose for the occasion and kept her makeup natural as she greeted locals and spoke to children in traditional dress.

Her eldest daughter Princess Leonor, 16, was as stylish as her mother in a bright pink sweater and off-white cargo pants. She put her blond hair in a ponytail.

Leonor – who has a younger sister, Sofia – has been studying at UWC Atlantic College in Wales since September 2021, but returned to Spain for half a year.

Yesterday, the Spanish royal family met the winners of the Princess of Asturias Awards in Oviedo, in the Principality of Asturias in the north of the country.

The Princess of Asturias Awards are a series of annual awards presented in Spain by the Princess of Asturias Foundation – formerly the Prince of Asturias Foundation – to individuals, entities or organizations from around the world who make outstanding achievements in the field of science, humanities and public affairs.

Each recipient who attends the ceremony will receive a diploma, a sculpture created especially for the awards by Spanish sculptor Joan Miró, and a pin with the Foundation’s emblem.

There is also a cash prize of 50,000 euros for each category, this amount is shared if the category has more than one recipient.

It comes when Leonor – who started her sophomore year at UWC Atlantic College at St Donat’s Castle in Wales – will train with all three branches of the Spanish military from September 2023.

Felipe and Letizia’s daughter will follow in her father’s footsteps and train in the Army, Navy and Spanish Air Force before moving on to the rest of her university studies.

Last month the Spanish newspaper El Pais reported that Leonor’s military training would end with a stay aboard the Juan Sebastián de Elcano, a training ship used by the Spanish Navy.

It was also revealed that the young princess would be entering law school once her military training is completed.

Her college choice has not yet been announced, but her education path is very similar to that of her father, King Felipe VI.

After graduating from Lakefield College in Canada, Felipe returned to Spain and attended the General Military Academy of Zaragozo, and went on to study at the Naval Military School in Marín.

He finished his training with a stint at the General Air Academy in San Javier.

He also completed his military education with a stint in the shop Juan Sebastián Elcano, aged 18 in 1987, and then studied law at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
