Across the country, women of a certain age are ditching their hair dye and proudly wearing their silver locks.

But it’s unlikely Queen Consort Camilla will be embracing gray any time soon if her colorist, Jo Hansford, has anything to do with it.

Ms. Hansford, who has worked with Camilla for 35 years, disapproves of gray hair, claims it’s “Mommy,” and changes the way people treat you.

The businesswoman, whose clients have also included Angelina Jolie, Elizabeth Hurley and Richard Burton, told BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour: ‘I hate grey.

“You don’t have to be gray anymore. We now have the best products in the world. You can look beautiful and much younger, ten years younger, if you don’t have gray hair.’

She claimed that only “very glamorous” people with a “sharp haircut” and “beautiful silver-white hair” can pull off the look.

Otherwise, she said, gray hair looks “mommy.”

She added, “People look at you in a different way. They talk to you in a different way… as if you were an old person.”

Ms Hansford leads a team of 90 people in two salons in West London, one in Mayfair and another at Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge, which also houses a hair dryer bar. She was awarded an MBE in 2010 for outstanding service to the hairdressing industry.

Referring to the coronation, she said Camilla would look her best, but she was concerned about how the crown would affect her hair.

She added, “I think she’ll look gorgeous.

“I think she’s nervous, like anyone else would be nervous, but I’m sure her hair will look the same as ever, and it’s looking good now.

“It looks so much better in photos, the color, because it’s softer and warmer.

“The difficulty will be putting the crown on without changing the style. How come I don’t know. I won’t be there – I’m watching it on television.’
