A collision between two riders on the iconic Finke Track near Alice Springs has claimed the life of a 27-year-old man.
The accident happened around 4 p.m. Friday on the remote dirt road where the annual Finke Desert Race is held.
The 27-year-old was riding a quad bike when he collided with a 24-year-old male motorcyclist.
Paramedics pronounced the quad rider dead at the scene while the motorcyclist was transported to Alice Springs Hospital in serious condition.

He has since been flown to the highway for treatment.
The portion of the track where the crash occurred, near Maryvale Road about 22 miles south of the Stuart Highway intersection, remained closed on Saturday.
The Northern Territory Police Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the incident.
