Tragic end to search for missing mother of three when body is found two weeks after she went missing

The body of an elderly woman has been found in a tragic end to a fifteen day search by the police.
Wendy Smith had been missing from her home in The Gap, north-west Brisbane, for more than two weeks when her body was located late on February 18.
The 78-year-old woman was last seen at her Lahore Street home around 9pm on February 2.

The mother of three is believed to have walked out of the house that night and has not been heard from again.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
The devastating find follows an extensive search operation involving police helicopters and the State Emergency Services.
Would-be rescuers swept through the bushes and streams surrounding The Gap to no avail.
Police divers also searched the Enoggera Reservoir in the days before Ms Smith’s body was discovered.
Queensland Police thanked volunteers and community members who assisted in the search, including companies that provided surveillance footage to help track the elderly woman’s latest movements.
The 78-year-old woman leaves behind a husband and three children.
Queensland Police confirmed that a report will be prepared for the coroner.
