QLD: Disabled Ipswich pensioner allegedly killed at unit survived a knife attack 10 YEARS AGO

Man, 63, reportedly stabbed to death at unit, was disabled pensioner who survived knife attack 10 YEARS AGO

  • Alleged murder victim was ‘disabled pensioner’
  • Daughter remembers her father as ‘a good man’

A man reportedly stabbed to death in his unit was a disabled retiree who was nearly killed in an unrelated knife attack 10 years earlier.

Terry Hogan, 63, died Saturday night at his home on Mine Street in the Redbank suburb of Ipswich, south-east Queensland.

Emergency services were called around 10:25 p.m. after neighbors heard screams coming from a property, but paramedics were unable to resuscitate Mr Hogan.

His daughter, Eden King, said she and her sister are “trying to raise money so we can put our father to rest.”

“We miss him so much, he was a good man,” Ms King wrote on it GoFundMe page she set up, titled “Beloved Father and Grandfather Taken Too Soon.”

Mr. Hogan’ was a single father who raised myself and my sister alone. He was a disabled retiree who had difficulty walking,” she said.

Ms King also revealed that her father had survived a knife attack ten years earlier.

“About 10 years ago, our father was stabbed and nearly killed. I never thought it would happen again, but it would be 1000 times worse.’

She started the fundraiser because she and her sister are “just trying to give my dad a nice goodbye and desperately trying to get him buried.”

Kane Charles Bell, 28, remains in custody after being found on the property Saturday night.

The Boronia Heights man has been charged with murder, threat of violence and possession of dangerous drugs (methamphetamine).

Mr Bell’s lawyer, Michael Gatenby, told the court on Monday there were ‘genuine concerns’ about his client’s mental health.

The case has been adjourned to a binding call-over on July 14.

Police believe three adults, the two men and a woman, were in a unit when an altercation broke out.

A four-year-old child was also reportedly in the unit at the time.

Detective David Briese said the woman and child were unharmed.

The two men were known to each other, according to police.

Neighbor Charlie Ridgeway Jr said he heard a disturbance before police arrived at the unit.

“Pretty much what we heard last night was fighting in the flats, we heard screaming,” he told the Courier Mail.

“We heard a big scream right after the scream, like a grown man screaming. About 20 minutes later there were 20 police cars.’

Mr Ridgeway said the area had changed for the worse since a block of flats was built two years ago.
