A couple claim they were left sitting in urine for up to 10 hours on a Qantas plane after finding a pair of wet children’s underwear on the floor in front of them.
The New Zealand couple from Wellington were on the first leg of their flight from Bangkok to Sydney on December 30 when they noticed some of their belongings were wet.
They had a bag of duty-free items worth $70, a neck pillow and a Qantas pillow placed under the seat in front of them.
But when one of them took the items out, they noticed that they were wet and there were stains on the pillow.
At first they thought the fluid was just spilled water. The couple put the items in the overhead locker and returned to their seats.

However, the man dried the neck pillow and used it during the flight.
Only at the end of their journey did they see the children’s underwear under the seat in front of them.
“Now we know that we spent a ten-hour journey in urine,” said one of the travelers, who wished to remain anonymous. NZ Herald.
“And the travel neck pillow, well, I’ve been using that for the past few hours, thinking it was just a little wet from the water.”
The shocked couple called a flight attendant who removed their underwear and said she would speak to her supervisor.
The couple said they were offered 10,000 Qantas points, which they declined as they no longer wanted to travel with the airline, and instead demanded a refund for the $3,827 flight.
Qantas initially rejected the refund request in an email sent on January 10, saying the ticket had been fully used.
The couple responded, saying it was “simply unacceptable.”

Qantas is said to have given the couple a full refund ‘as a gesture of goodwill’.
A Qantas spokesperson said all international aircraft are cleaned between flights, including vacuuming and disinfecting.
“All of our international aircraft are cleaned between each flight, including vacuuming seats and disinfecting surfaces,” the statement said.
“We are investigating what happened and have raised the matter with our cleaning supplier in Bangkok, who cleaned the aircraft before departure.”
The spokesperson claimed that cabin crew were only informed of the situation just before the plane started to descend.
