A Qantas plane had to turn around in mid-flight due to an engine problem.

The QF703 flight from Cairns to Melbourne took off at 2.10pm on Tuesday, but the plane returned to Cairns airport after nearly an hour and a half in the air.

An airline spokesman said pilots had received “a cockpit report of a possible engine problem.”

“The pilots followed standard procedures and requested a priority landing, but emergency services were not required and the aircraft landed safely and normally,” the spokesperson continued.

‘Customers will be accommodated again as soon as possible.’

The plane was scheduled to land in Melbourne at 4:20 pm.
