Panic is in the air as Qantas flight is forced to return to Melbourne after smoke is detected in the cockpit

A Qantas flight has been forced to return to Melbourne and land after smoke was detected in the cockpit.
The Boeing 737 that had just taken off to Perth landed without incident shortly after 10:30 am.
A Tullamarine airport spokesperson said Announce sun a ‘precautionary emergency response’ was prepared for landing, but once down the aircraft taxied normally.
“The emergency services are in the process of resigning,” said the spokesman
A Qantas spokeswoman said the QF769 returned to Melbourne shortly after takeoff after the crew reported fumes in the cockpit.
“Using standard procedure, the captain declared a priority landing and returned to Melbourne,” a Qantas spokeswoman said.

“The plane landed normally and safely and the passengers disembarked.
“Engineers are inspecting the plane and the passengers will be transferred to an alternative plane.”
A spokesman for Fire Rescue Victoria said crews responded to reports of smoke in an aircraft’s cockpit, but were not required to act.
The incident was declared safe just before 11 a.m.
