Flight attendant sues Qantas for allegedly naming her on the airline’s intranet as in rehab for working under the influence of drugs and alcohol

A Qantas flight attendant is suing the airline for nearly half a million dollars in damages, alleging that her name was “negligently” published on a list of drug and alcohol management course participants.

The Queensland woman claims she suffered “considerable pain, suffering, discomfort and disability” in 2020 when her name was published on the Qantas intranet as part of a list of staff who attended a “drug and alcohol control plan” two years before.

In the lawsuit filed in Brisbane District Court last month, the woman alleges published details indicated her “participation” in the course was compulsory and “was as a consequence of being under the influence of alcohol at work.”

The woman refuted those accusations and affirms that her participation in the course was voluntary and denied being under the influence of alcohol while working in 2018. the courier mail informed.

He stated that the airline should have ensured that private, sensitive and/or inaccurate personal data was not published on a portal accessed by other staff.

“Such information…was private and sensitive to (the assistant),” the claim reads.

She alleged that she required medical and psychological treatment, which affected her income.

The woman is seeking $300,000 in damages for future economic losses and $100,000 in past economic losses.

The compensation figure of $489,850 also covers general damages, future treatment needs, and retirement losses.

The woman claims in her lawsuit that while working for the labor recruitment company Maurice Alexander Management, she was subject to the “same terms and conditions of employment as if she were an employee” of Qantas.

Maurice Alexander Management cites one of its main activities as ‘the supply of flight attendants to Qantas’.

Her LinkedIn profile indicates that she has worked for the company since 2006 and is still employed, The Courier Mail reported.

No defense has been presented and no hearing date has been set.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Qantas for comment.

The latest drama comes after a turbulent few weeks for the airline plagued by a series of emergency landings and mid-air turns.

A passenger and a flight attendant were rushed to hospital after a plane collided with severe turbulence on its way to Hervey Bay from Brisbane in the latest incident on Wednesday.
