- Qantas accused of anti-Christian acts
- The airline came under fire during the Christmas period
Bob Katter has accused Qantas of being anti-Christian after claiming the national airline had snubbed traditional Christmas carols in one of its prestigious business class lounges.
In a written complaint against the airline, the independent MP said he was upset when he didn't hear holiday music with faith-based messages while in a Qantas Club during a flight delay.
“I noticed they were playing Christmas music for the two hours I was there,” Mr Katter said.
'Two hours of the most un-Christmas music I've ever heard.
Bob Katter has accused Qantas of being anti-Christian after claiming the national airline had snubbed traditional Christmas carols in one of its prestigious business class lounges.
“More than 80 per cent of the Australian population is multi-generational Australian, and they grew up with Christmas Carols.
“It then appears that Qantas is anti-Christian.”
According to the latest census data, there has been a steady decline in the number of Australians identifying as Christian, with the total number falling from 74 percent in 1991 to 44 percent in 2021.
The same data shows that while fewer people identify as Christian, the number of people claiming no religion has risen to 38 percent in 2021, up from 30 percent in 2016.
In his pre-Christmas rant, Mr Katter, who represents Kennedy's Queensland division, said: went on to flog former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.
In a written complaint against the airline, the independent MP said he was upset when he didn't hear holiday music with faith-based messages while in a Qantas Club during a flight delay.
Joyce resigned in early September after the airline came under the spotlight over allegations of illegal ticket sales and poor service.
“As time goes by, I hope more and more Christians will become aware of your resentment,” he wrote.
'So while Alan Joyce (Australia's most hated man?) may be gone, his 'spirit' clearly lives on.
'But one thing is certain: his spirit 'is not' 'The Spirit of Australia'.
Qantas has been contacted for comment.
