Taylor Swift’s Era tour sparked a 357 percent increase in searches for sequin dresses, statistics show.
During the American pop star’s performances in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Liverpool in June, her fashion style took the whole country by storm.
This included department store John Lewis reporting the huge increase in glittering sequin nightgowns between June 7 and June 22, which coincided with the first leg of Swift’s tour.
Swift’s “Swifties,” the affectionate nickname for her fans, also saw a 98 percent increase in searches for sequin skirts.
In July, economists argued that inflation remained at 2 percent instead of falling due to the popularity of the Swift tour, due to an increase in buying meals, booking hotel rooms and renting rental cars.
Laura Suter, director of personal finance at investment firm AJ Bell, said at the time: ‘Bank of England policymakers may be cursing Taylor Swift because fans spending on hotel rooms and in restaurants during her Eras tour is likely one of the reasons prices are rising . rose in June, meaning headline inflation is leveling off at 2 percent instead of falling.”

Swift’s effect on Britain’s fashion sense emerged as part of an overall analysis of what Britons bought in 2024.
