Pilots of several Russian planes reported a UFO buzzing over Volgograd when Vladimir Putin visited the city on Thursday.

A report from the Telegram channel Aviatorschina said that the UFO was seen and reported to aviation authorities by the crews of four separate passenger planes.

Putin had flown to Volgograd under tight security to attend ceremonies related to the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad in World War II.

The incidents came as the dictator hinted that the conflict in Ukraine could go nuclear following moves by the West to supply Kyiv with significant tank supplies.

He said: ‘We did not send our tanks to your borders, but we have the means to respond, and it will not end the use of armored vehicles, everyone needs to understand that.

“A modern war with Russia will be completely different.”

S7 Airlines flight S72046 from Sochi to Moscow reported the sighting of “an unidentified flying object” over Volgograd, Russia on February 2, 2023.

The crew of the Rossiya plane estimated the distance of the UFO to be around 125 miles.

The sightings were reported to air traffic control and to civil and military authorities.

The competent authorities have been notified, as no flight plans were provided in the specified area at that time.

The timing of the other sightings was not disclosed precisely.

The 7:08 p.m. sighting was about three hours after Putin’s arrival, and occurred while he was taking part in commemorations that included his saber-rattling speech.

It is known that at 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m., and 8:45 p.m., laser displays were held in connection with the 80th anniversary commemorations.

Russian authorities have not commented on the UFO reports.

The flights that reported the strange sightings were S72046 – S7 or Siberia Airlines – from Sochi to Moscow, SU1125 – Aeroflot – also from Sochi to Moscow, S73750 Istanbul to Moscow and SU6358 – Rossiya – from Mineralnye Vody to Saint Petersburg.

The flight paths took the planes east of Volgograd, formerly called Stalingrad.

All air routes show major detours to avoid flying close to the war zone in Ukraine before passing Volgograd.
