Vladimir Putin launched an attack on Ternopil in Ukraine just before the city’s most famous resident, Tvorchi, performed at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Warehouses were targeted by Russian missile attacks and two people were injured, Ternopil Governor Volodymyr Trush confirmed.

Reportedly, the warehouses that were hit and caught fire belonged to commercial enterprises and a religious organization.

Ten minutes before his performance at the Liverpool Arena, Tvorchi posted on Instagram about attacks by Ternopil in western Ukraine.

Tvorchi was also seen holding up a sign with the name of their hometown while participating in the competition.

After performing “Heart of Steel” – a song about troops fighting against Russian troops at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol – Tvorchi reposted, saying: “Ternopil is the name of our hometown, which was bombed by Russia as we sang on the Eurovision stage about our steel hearts, indomitability and will.

“This is a message to all cities in Ukraine that are shelled every day. Kharkiv, Dnipro, Khmelnytskyi, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Uman, Sumy, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Odessa, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Kherson and all others.

‘Europe, unite against evil for the sake of peace!’

Eurovision commentator Timur Miroshnichenko said: ‘Well done guys! For Ternopil, which is now being bombed, for Mariupol, which was bombed a year ago. For all cities and people of our country!’

Mayor Serhiy Nadal wrote: “It was at that time that our city was attacked by Russian missiles.

“Thank you, because your speech has become a symbol of not only the unity of the country, but of the whole world.”

Russia has not yet made an official comment.
