Ranting Putin ally predicts US will collapse in ‘imminent new civil war’ amid election chaos

A staunch ally of Vladimir Putin has predicted in his latest social media tirade that America will descend into a “looming new civil war” amid the chaos surrounding the presidential election.

Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council and former Russian prime minister, is confident that the US will maintain sanctions against the Kremlin “forever,” or until a civil war destroys the country.

Medvedev gave his opinion on the US presidential election in a Telegram message on Saturday, calling Democratic candidate Kamala Harris “inexperienced” and “simply stupid” and calling his Republican rival Donald Trump an “eccentric narcissist” and a “pragmatist.”

He argued that while Trump “understands that sanctions damage the dollar’s dominance in the world” and “has threatened to lift them,” he won’t actually do so because it’s “not a sufficient reason to spark a revolution” in an anti-Russian America.

He further claimed that Harris, who has been backed by Putin, will continue to give “beautiful, meaningless speeches” where she will “read from a teleprompter and laugh infectiously.”

Russian leaders, apparently angry over sanctions imposed on the country following the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, have routinely promoted the narrative of a new civil war. Medvedev has even previously claimed that there are parallels between the current political climate and that of Abraham Lincoln’s presidency.

The U.S. has gradually ramped up its sanctions on Russia. President Joe Biden issued an executive order in December that allows the U.S. to directly sanction foreign banks that facilitate transactions for Russia.

But Biden dropped out of the White House race in July and endorsed his vice president for the job. Putin also gave Harris his backing last week.

Medvedev, who made headlines in the media for his bizarre social media tirades during the war in Ukraine, has now spoken out about the upcoming elections and the impact he believes they could have on Russian sanctions.

“Out of spite for the current administration, Donald Trump has threatened to lift sanctions against Russia. But will he actually do so if he is elected? No, of course not,” he wrote in a Telegram message on Saturday.

“For all his apparent bravado as an ‘outsider,’ Trump is ultimately an establishment insider. Yes, he is an eccentric narcissist, but he is also a pragmatist.”

Medvedev claimed that Trump, as a “businessman,” is aware of the financial implications of the sanctions for the US dollar, but he argues that he will not act against DC anyway.

“Trump understands that sanctions damage the dollar’s dominance in the world. But that is not a sufficient reason to organize a revolution in the United States and go against the anti-Russian line of the notorious Deep State, which is much stronger than any Trump,” he said, before taking aim at Harris.

‘But what about Harris? You can’t expect any surprises from her. She is inexperienced and, according to her enemies, simply stupid. Beautiful, meaningless speeches and boring ‘correct’ answers to questions are prepared for her, which she reads from an autocue while laughing infectiously.’

Medvedev, again suggesting that America was on the brink of destruction, concluded: ‘There were sanctions against the USSR throughout the 20th century, and they have returned in the 21st century on an unprecedented scale.

“So these are sanctions forever. Or rather, until the US collapses in a looming new civil war. After all, Hollywood makes movies about this for a reason.”

Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement to Newsweekresponded to Medvedev’s comments, claiming that “Putin supports Kamala Harris because he knows she will be a wimp for Russia.”

Medvedev warned on July 4 this year of a “harbinger of civil war,” claiming there were parallels between the American Civil War and modern-day America.

He also compared the civil war to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Medvedev’s predictions appear to be unfounded. In 2022, Putin’s ally predicted that a civil war would break out in America in 2023.

The US State Department has previously dismissed Medvedev’s comments, with a spokesperson telling Newsweek: “We know by now that we should not take Medvedev seriously. This is standard Kremlin nonsense.”
