In the first half, Wales’ Joe Allen fired a long-range left-footed effort at goal which flew over the crossbar.

It was a seemingly standard incident, though repetitive showed England’s Pickford making a hilarious attempt to save the shot.

The Everton goalkeeper dove through the air with both arms fully raised as he flew over his goal – despite the ball sailing well over the crossbar.

With little else to talk about from the first 45 minutes, pundits Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer enjoyed the hilarious rescue attempt.

In a speech on BBC Sport, Lineker jokingly claimed: “I think maybe Jordan Pickford had it under control, look… waheyyy!”

Shearer replied:He hasn’t had anything to do anyway.’

To which Lineker replied, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a goalkeeper dive for balls for miles.”

The England shotstopper then recorded his second clean sheet of the tournament after they managed to keep Wales at bay for 90 minutes.

England went on to record a resounding 3-0 win to secure a spot in the next round of the tournament, where they face Senegal.

After a goalless first half, the Three Lions came alive in the second period and took the lead five minutes after the break thanks to a deadly free kick from Marcus Rashford.

They doubled their lead minutes later when Phil Foden arrived at the back post to tap in from a cross from Harry Kane.
