Dramatic footage has captured the rescue effort by emergency services after a woman was hit by a train in Sydney.
The woman, in her fifties, was hit by a car just before rush hour on Tuesday afternoon at Punchbowl train station in the south-west of the city.
She was immediately taken by ambulance to St. George’s Hospital, but tragically passed away there on Wednesday morning.
She had climbed onto the tracks to pick up something she had dropped – possibly a mobile phone – but she was unable to climb back onto the platform.
Footage shows emergency services rushed to the station, including NSW fire and rescue crews, as they try to free the woman from under the train.
A team of emergency workers then performed CPR on the woman as she was carefully carried on a stretcher from the platform, through the train station, to a waiting ambulance.
Then a police car with sirens arrived to give blood to the emergency workers working in the back of the ambulance.
