Woman dies, male driver seriously injured after car crashes into house in Belfield

A woman has died after the car she was in crashed into a Sydney house, while the male driver suffered serious injuries but survived.

The horrific accident happened in Elliott Street, Belfield at around 10.30am on Monday morning.

Fire and Rescue NSW officers rescued a male driver, 82, who was trapped in the wreck and provided first aid on the front lawn of the property.

“The female passenger of the car was detained for some time before being released,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene.”

The woman has not yet been formally identified.

The male driver, who suffered serious injuries, was rushed to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

His condition is said to be stable.

Police have cordoned off the crime scene and started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Punchbowl Road, near the crash site, remains closed in both directions.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
