Publishers are reportedly not announcing final release dates to avoid the launch of GTA 6
- GTA 6 will be released at the end of 2025
- Publishers are reportedly avoiding announcing game releases before then
- This is due to fears that the launch of GTA 6 will negatively impact sales
Rockstar Games previously confirmed that the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released in ‘Fall 2025’. While there’s no official date yet, we now know that this news has still had quite an impact on other publishers, with companies desperate to avoid a release clash.
A recent Bloomberg article suggests that “expectations are so high.” GTA6 that “some competing game publishers are waiting as long as possible to commit to their fall release dates.” This is reportedly so that the publishers can know if GTA6 will actually hit the current release window and “keep their own games far, far away” if so.
Given the sheer amount of excitement surrounding it GTA6it’s not hard to imagine why. Its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 5released in 2013 and has now sold around 200 million copies as of this year – a figure that puts it at the top of the list of the best-selling games of all time by most metrics.
The game also came with a multiplayer component, Grand Theft Auto Onlinewhich has proven to be very popular in its own right, raking in millions of dollars in revenue every year. It’s not unreasonable to expect that GTA6 will be just as successful, potentially diverting attention from other games released around the same time and negatively impacting their sales.
So far we’ve only seen one trailer for it GTA6which gave us our first glimpse of its setting: the Miami-inspired fictional state of Leonida. According to previous leaks, the game will feature two playable protagonists. In terms of platforms, we know it’s coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
