PSG’s annoyance with Real Madrid over Kylian Mbappe’s pursuit ‘could lead to a formal complaint to FIFA’
- Real Madrid have made no secret of their desire to sign Kylian Mbappé from PSG
- Mbappé has not opted to extend his contract with PSG for a year
- It is now being argued that PSG’s irritation with Real Madrid could escalate
Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly poised to escalate tensions with Real Madrid as they consider filing a formal complaint with FIFA over their pursuit of Kylian Mbappé.
Real Madrid have long made it no secret that they want to make Mbappé the new jewel in their attack.
Mbappe is at war with PSG over his refusal to take up the contract extension option, meaning he is a free agent at the end of this season.
But now the Telegraph report that PSG are considering whether Real Madrid’s conduct – PSG are said to be convinced player and club already have an agreement for him to join – merits a formal complaint to FIFA.
Should Mbappé join Real Madrid as a free agent next summer, there is talk of him raking in a massive signing fee of around £138m.
Kylian Mbappé’s future remains one of the biggest talking points in world football
It is alleged that PSG could file a formal complaint against Real Madrid over their belief that the Spanish giants have already reached an agreement to sign Mbappé
Crucially, if Real Madrid and Mbappe had a smoothed out agreement at all, it would be against FIFA rules.
They would be against approaching a player without permission from his current team, in this case PSG.
PSG are reportedly even more convinced something is up with Real Madrid, as Mbappé refused to even speak to Saudi side Al-Hilal, after accepting a world record £259 million from the French champions.
Mbappé signed a new contract with PSG last summer, with the 24-year-old looking to commit his future to the club until 2025.
Although billed as a three-year deal, the deal was for the first two years, with Mbappé having the option of extending for an additional season or not.
A midnight deadline for Monday night passed without him signing an extension, meaning his contract will expire from 2024.
PSG are determined to get rid of him for a reason and so there are now questions about whether Mbappé will dig in to walk free in 12 months.
There has been talk of a loan to Liverpool – which has since been turned down by boss Jurgen Klopp – and reports in Spain have linked Barcelona.
Mbappé did not use the option to extend his contract to keep him at PSG until 2025
It remains to be seen if there will be an offer this summer that he deems suitable for PSG to be reimbursed
Chelsea fans wondered if they were in the mix for the Frenchman, who scored a hat-trick in the most recent World Cup final, when Enzo Fernandez made a comment about him during a pre-season trophy lift.
PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi is determined not to allow their prize money to leave the club for nothing next summer and so all those clubs are now considering whether to strike for a fee or risk the bidding war a year from now.
“My position is very clear,” Al-Khelaifi said earlier this month. “I don’t want to repeat it every time: if Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he has to sign a new contract.
“We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free, we can’t. This is a French club.
“He said he would never leave for free. If he changes his mind today, it’s not my fault. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free, that’s very clear.’
