PSG goalkeeper Sergio Rico ‘is stunned for the second time’ after suffering head injuries in a fall from horseback… as hospital confirms he is ‘in serious condition’

PSG goalkeeper Sergio Rico has been sedated for a second time after suffering serious head injuries in a horse riding accident, reports said.

Last month, the 29-year-old was making a pilgrimage on horseback to Huelva, near his hometown of Seville in Spain, when he was knocked off the animal.

Reports had suggested the goalkeeper was in a ‘stable condition’ but is still in intensive care following the incident.

However, as reported by the ParisianRico is now sedated for the second time after falling into a coma again.

The outlet claims an improvement in the player’s condition was reported on Wednesday, but now remains in ‘serious condition’.

The PSG goalkeeper is said to remain in ‘serious condition’ following last month’s incident

A statement read: “Sergio Rico has been sedated again and remains in serious condition.”

Rico was transported by helicopter to the Virgen del Rocio University Hospital in Seville at the beginning of this month.

An eyewitness to the accident reported that Rico received several kicks to the head from a horse after falling to the ground.

The accident happened after PSG coach Christophe Galtier gave his side the day off after they clinched the Ligue 1 title.

Rico therefore returned to Seville to take part in the pilgrimage on horseback and was in the village of Almontena when the fall occurred.

Sevilla club president Pepe Castro and PSG teammate Carlos Soler also visited him in hospital on Monday.

Rico began his career with his hometown club after coming through Sevilla’s academy, going on to make 170 senior appearances.

Premier League fans may also remember Rico from his season on loan at Fulham in 2018-19, although he was unable to save the west London club from relegation.

Rico was back home in Seville after the PSG team had a day off on Sunday

PSG players, including Lionel Messi, recently warmed up in shirts with a photo of Rico on them

Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain paid tribute to Rico last Sunday during their last game of the season.

PSG, already crowned Ligue 1 champions, ended their season with a 3–2 defeat to Clermont Foot.

After scoring a penalty in the 21st minute, Mbappé celebrated his goal by holding up a shirt with Rico’s name and the number 16.

PSG fans paid tribute to the goalkeeper of their own, including a giant shirt with his name and number in the stands.
