PSG boss Christophe Galtier ‘only has TWO games left to save his job’

PSG boss Christophe Galtier ‘only has TWO games to save his job’ amid stuttering form that has seen them lose eight times this year, crash out of the Champions League and cut their lead in Ligue 1 to just six points

  • PSG faces crucial league matches against Nice and title challenger Lens
  • Recent defeats have reduced the lead at the top to just six points
  • Galtier was under pressure following the Champions League exit to Bayern Munich

Christophe Galtier reportedly has just two games to save his job as manager of Paris Saint-Germain as his rivals crush him in the Ligue 1 title race.

The Parisians have struggled at the start of 2023, losing eight of their last 18 games in all competitions and exiting the Champions League in the last 16 stage.

Sunday night’s 1-0 home defeat to Lyon left them just six points ahead of Lens and Marseille in a title race that should have been a foregone conclusion.

The L’Equipe report the intense pressure now rests on Galtier’s shoulders, saying his fate will be determined by the outcome of PSG’s next two games – Saturday’s trip to Nice and the top two clash with Lens a week later.

If they slip in either, things will get very close in the title race with seven games to play from then on.

The French sports newspaper says Galtier’s long-term future is uncertain anyway and that PSG expects him to be sidelined if they find the right replacement for him.

Falling short in their Ligue 1 title defense will be unacceptable to the PSG hierarchy, especially after they failed again in the Champions League, losing 3-0 to Bayern Munich.

It comes amid growing dissent at the club, with supporters once again jeering Lionel Messi on Sunday night as he delays a contract extension for a third season at the Parc des Princes.

Galtier, 56, responded to “very harsh” supporters’ criticism of the Argentina World Cup winner, who has scored 18 goals and provided 17 assists for PSG this season.

He said: ‘Whistles against Leo Messi are very loud. Leo is a player who gives a lot. He also gave a lot in the first part of the season, but it is also up to other players to get more features.

“We are waiting for Leo and Kylian Mbappé to open up situations. But around Leo, the players have to take more responsibility, because we can’t expect everything to come from Leo or Kylian.’

Emmanuel Petit, winner of the 1998 World Cup in France, also scolded the boo fans, calling their action an ‘insult to football’.
