Prue Leith, 84, ditches pastry for PVC as she debuts VERY bold all leather look on the catwalk at London Fashion Week

She is known for her colourful outfits, striking prints and the quirky glasses she styles every week on The Great British Bake Off.

But nothing could have prepared fans for Prue Leith’s latest look.

The 84-year-old restaurateur made sure all eyes were on her when she opted for a striking leather look.

The presenter walked the catwalk at the Vin + Omi show at The Kensington Building during London Fashion Week on Friday.

The tight PVC midi dress was bursting with snaps, featured racy red lace-up details and strikingly broad shoulders.

The star completed her look with black leather sneakers and matching leather gloves as she swapped the kitchen for the stage.

Prue took off her glasses and opted for an intense smokey eye makeup and bold red lips.

Prue will soon be seen on screen with Paul Hollywood again when the fifteenth season of The Great British Bake Off kicks off on September 24 at 8pm.

Earlier this year, Prue admitted she almost didn’t apply to replace Mary Berry on the much-loved show because she was worried she wouldn’t meet the “diversity criteria”.

The star has been a judge on the cooking competition since replacing Mary in 2016.

But this almost wasn’t the case, as Prue says she initially rejected the idea completely.

When it turned out that the women had known each other since the 1970s, a photo of them and presenter Jack de Manio (1914-1988) was found.

Prue told the Podcast about sliding doors with Jennie Becker: ‘I just jumped on it. I had started thinking about it, when I knew Mary Berry wasn’t going to happen. I thought, “Oh, I’d love that job,” but I dismissed the idea.

Earlier this year, Prue admitted she almost didn’t apply to replace Mary Berry on the much-loved show because she was worried she wouldn’t meet the ‘diversity requirements’.

“I thought, ‘They’ll get someone younger, someone more… probably a young Asian chef or something, who meets all the diversity requirements and stuff.’ But no, they picked me.”

‘If you think back to my previous career, I was a judge on the Great British Menu for 11 years and there were about ten flavours on each plate, which makes Bake Off very easy.

‘With cake, you can get the icing, the filling and the crumb with one spoon. I knew all the top chefs, I had a Michelin restaurant myself, so I knew that level of cooking very well.’

The connection with baking expert Maty extends to Prue’s own husband, fashion designer John Playfair, 77, who regularly uses it when commenting on his wife’s cooking.

“I don’t bake cakes anymore because we’re both too fat, so he teases me, ‘I wish I’d married Mary Berry,’” she said.

When Prue arrived, her fans were not exactly enamoured with her, having already been unhappy about the move from BBC to Channel 4 and the loss of Mary, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc.

Prue told The Times in february: ‘Oh, I hate my voice. It’s too posh. When I replaced Mary Berry on Bake Off, Twitter said, “Oh no, not that posh b**ch,” and I kind of agreed with her. But yeah, Americans seem to like it.’
