Popular meal delivery service collapses: ‘Worst days the hospitality industry has ever experienced’

Gastronomic delivery service Providoor has collapsed and will immediately stop taking orders.
Company founder and celebrity chef Shane Delia wrote on his company’s website Friday: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closure of Providoor, a company emerging from the worst days the hospitality industry has ever seen. .’
‘Later today, Providoor will be formally declared bankrupt.’
The company’s collapse follows the turmoil among Australian start-ups this year, with Deliveroo pulling out of Australia and Voly and MilkRun going under.
Delia said the economic headwinds the hospitality industry is currently facing was to blame for the collapse.

“I made Providoor during the lockdown, when the hospitality industry was in turmoil and we had to find a way to survive,” he said.
“Providoor meant we could secure and create jobs and give people a little bit of restaurant joy in a pretty bleak time.
“When people continued to use Providoor after the social restrictions were lifted, it turned out to be a really good idea.
“I wish it had been given the chance to get through the challenging economic conditions that so many in the restaurant and hospitality industry are currently facing.”
The gourmet delivery service launched in Melbourne and Sydney in 2020 and offers fine dining options from a range of top restaurants.
They then expanded to Brisbane in early 2022 and served Australians during the Covid lockdowns.
“Although today is a very sad day, I am proud of Providoor and what it has achieved,” said Delia.
“We served over a million meals and built something that made a difference during some very dark days.”
