Protesters get KICKED out of Ron DeSantis rally for holding up Pride flags: 2024 hopeful yells ‘we don’t want you to indoctrinate our kids’ to hecklers dragged out by security
- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis faced hecklers holding up rainbow Pride flags and wearing rainbow t-shirts at his town hall
- When security cleared the protesters, DeSantis turned to the small group and said, “We don’t want you indoctrinating our kids!” Leave our children alone!’
- Critics argue that DeSantis’ agenda and Florida laws are anti-LGBTQ
Ron DeSantis was disturbed Monday at his South Carolina town hall by gay rights activists as they held up rainbow flags and shouted at the Florida governor before being removed from the room by security.
The presidential candidates immediately responded to the protesters by telling them to “leave our children alone.”
A cornerstone of DeSantis’ 2024 platform is preventing “indoctrination” of children and combating “wake-up” in the school systems. LGBTQ activists claim his agenda is anti-gay and threatens the safety of their community.
At least three individuals took off overshirts at the top of DeSantis’ comments in Tega Cay, South Carolina on Monday to reveal white t-shirts with rainbow flags on them. They then unfurled multiple gay pride flags and held them aloft behind the Florida governor.

The father-of-three ignored the protesters at first, but then turned to the small group of three to make some remarks to them as they were pushed out of the room by several members of security.
Early in his remarks, DeSantis attacked President Joe Biden’s mental fitness and White House scandals, as well as his refusal to acknowledge the existence of his seventh granddaughter and illegitimate child by Hunter, Marine Joan Roberts.
“Do you believe me when I say my White House will be cocaine-free?” DeSantis asked the crowd amid fallout from a failed Secret Service investigation that found no culprit for the discovery of cocaine in the White House earlier this month.
The 2024 candidate continued, “Did you hear Biden — he’ll say when it comes to kids, ‘they’re not your kids, they’re all our kids.’ As the father of a six, a five and a three year old, my children are not his children, I can tell you that.’
At this point in the remarks, the protesters, two standing and one in a wheelchair, began to take off their coats to reveal their proud flag shirts.
“But if he’s sitting here talking about all of our kids, I have something to say to him — why don’t you focus on spending more time with your granddaughter in Arkansas, or at least acknowledge that she exists, before worrying about our kids,” DeSantis continued.
As security removed the protesters from the room, DeSantis turned to the small group and said, “We don’t want you indoctrinating our kids!” Leave our children alone!’
After removing their button-downs to reveal t-shirts with rainbows on them, the group of three protesters rolled Pride flags out of their bags and held them aloft behind the 2024 presidential election hopefuls.
He then turned to the protesters who held up their flags as security began to chase them out of the room.
“And they shouldn’t worry about our kids either,” he said to loud cheers and jeers from the crowd. “We don’t want you to indoctrinate our children!”
“Leave our children alone!” he yelled at the hecklers.
The protesters shouted back, but could not be heard on the live stream of the event.
Last year, Florida’s DeSantis signed the Parental Bill of Rights, which partially bans classroom discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity among children through third grade. The law was expanded this year to fourth, fifth and sixth graders.
Critics call the law “Don’t Say Gay” and claim it is an insult to LGBTQ youth. They also say it is dangerous for children who do not identify as straight and cis and will lead to more mental health problems and violence against this community.
Desantis’ stop in the early South Carolina primary came after comments made earlier Monday morning in Virginia.
“I’ve been in two different states today,” he praised before laughing, “Joe Biden, I think he’s been in two different states today as well — states of confusion and disorientation.”
