Contestants on Channel 10’s new reality show, The Challenge, had to be aligned after old rivalries kicked in once they arrived on set in Argentina.

Producers had to “execute intervention” to keep contestants in line and remind them they were there to make a TV show, reports The Herald Sun.

“It was the first time something like this had to happen,” said a source.

With so many participants knowing each other off-screen, plus lots of love affairs that had already taken place in real life, sparks flew as soon as the cameras started rolling.

An insider said Daily Mail Australia’s producers were annoyed with the contestants for discussing their “plan of attack” and “working together” before filming began.

“It started on the plane. Cyrell Paule had already argued with Grant Crapp over a promise he made to her before filming,” the source said.

“Jessica Brody and Ciarran Stott looked at each other too.”

The first trailer for The Challenge was released last weekend and features dinner-style drama normally seen on Married At First Sight.

One scene shows Konrad Bień-Stephen colliding with Ryan Gallagher after a heated argument in the house.

Konrad yells ‘you’re kidding!’ before they rush off furiously.

In another dramatic moment, Brittany Hockley yells, “You’re 100 percent trying to make something up about something it isn’t,” as she clashes with another contestant.

The upcoming series will feature 22 reality stars from The Bachelor, Survivor, Big Brother, I’m A Celebrity, MasterChef and Ninja Warrior.

Contestants include Jack Vidgen, Ciarran Stott, Konrad Bień-Stephen, Cyrell Paule, Ryan Gallagher, Emily Seebohm, Brittany Hockley, Brooke Blurton and Marley Biyendolo.
