On June 15, the federal parliament quickly passed laws to terminate the lease on a new Russian embassy within 500 meters of the parliament building, following advice about potential security risks.
Protest signs read “Who is Albo” and “deep state lap dog,” while others wore t-shirts with the Russian pro-military Z symbol.
Russia has launched an attempt by the Supreme Court to overturn the laws.
Australian Federal Police are monitoring a Russian diplomat crouching in a shed at the proposed site, but have been unable to arrest him due to diplomatic immunity.
