Pro-Palestinian protest planned for Sydney to be banned by Chris Minns after disgusting scenes on Opera House steps where activists chanted ‘gas the Jews’
NSW Premier Chris Minns has canceled an upcoming Free Palestine rally in Sydney after hundreds of protesters caused chaos outside the Opera House.
Minns said the organizers had already shown they were not peaceful based on Monday’s wild scenes, during which protesters chanted ‘gas the Jews’ and ‘f*** the Jews’.
More than 1,000 people have been killed after the Islamist group Hamas attacked Israeli cities from the Palestinian territories on Saturday.
At a press conference on Wednesday, the prime minister apologized to the state’s Jewish community for failing to provide a safe place for mourning following the devastating attacks launched by terrorists over the weekend.
“The intentions were to illuminate the Opera House as a space for the Jewish community to commemorate what happened in Israel, the number of family and friends involved in the conflict,” Minns said.

‘We didn’t. I take responsibility for this. I want to make sure it doesn’t happen again.’
Minns said paperwork for a second protest had been submitted to police, but he expected the application to be rejected.
“The organizers of the protest have already proven that they are not peaceful. Shouting racial epithets is not the definition of a peaceful protest. The idea that they will command the streets of Sydney is not going to happen and I’m sure the NSW Police will make that clear this morning.’
The tense protests on Monday night, organized by the Palestine Action Group in Sydney, saw an Israeli flag burned, anti-Semitic chants from protesters and bonfires set off in the courtyard of the Opera House.
