An inmate killed in a prison brawl has been identified as one of the alleged killers of Lachlan Griffiths, whose body has never been found, leading to lurid speculation about his fate.
Filip Grbavac, 42, was found unconscious with serious head injuries at Woodford Correctional Center in the southeast Queensland town of Moreton Bay about 7pm on Friday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, while police said he was fatally injured during a fight with another inmate.
An inmate killed in a prison brawl has been identified as Filip Grbavac, who was awaiting trial for the alleged murder of Lachlan Griffiths.
Police investigated the incident, with the other inmate involved assisting them.
No charges have yet been filed, while Mr Grbavac’s next of kin have been notified.
Following the disappearance of 34-year-old Lachlan Griffiths in January 2022, police charged Mr Grbavac, along with David Lee Tans, Billy Bornstein and Francesco Giorgi, with the murder of the missing man in February 2022.
Despite Queensland Police appealing for information, Mr Griffiths’ body was never found.
Rumors that his arm was cut off, placed in an acid bath or killed by motorcycles were aired at a court hearing in November 2022 in which the four suspects were brought to justice by a friend of Mr Griffiths, Sarah Scaini.
The court heard Ms Scaini raised the horrific possibilities surrounding Mr Griffith’s fate in a conversation she secretly recorded on November 15, 2022, with the missing man’s girlfriend, Amy Turner, who had also been in a relationship with Mr Grbavac.

“I wasn’t referring to anyone in particular,” Ms Scaini told the court.
‘I’ve heard a lot of things.
“It’s exactly what I’ve heard … (from) a lot of different people.”
She said everything she said was based on “rumors” she heard from other people.
Mr Griffiths was last seen at the Meriton Suites on Herschel Street in Brisbane’s CBD on the morning of January 16, 2022.
He was not reported missing until January 26 by his mother, who became concerned when he did not contact her.
