A prisoner was allegedly gang-raped for half an hour by inmates at a New South Wales prison.
The horrific incident is believed to have taken place on Tuesday at the Lithgow Correctional Centre, west of Sydney.
The prisoners allegedly took turns sexually abusing the man in a cell, Penrith Press reported.
A source told the newspaper that other prisoners could hear the sexual abuse, but claimed the guards knew nothing about it and did not intervene.
One of the alleged attackers is said to be a convicted sex offender.
The alleged victim was taken to hospital on Wednesday.
A New South Wales Police spokesperson said “a report had been received of sexual abuse of a prisoner by multiple other prisoners”.
Corrective Services NSW said an investigation is underway.
