Princess of Wales is wished a ‘full recovery’ by Gary Lineker as BBC host and ex-England star leads the well-wishes from the sporting world after Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis

Gary Lineker and other members of the sporting world have sent their well wishes to the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, after she announced she had been diagnosed with cancer at the age of 42.

She revealed the news on Wednesday in a very emotional video message filmed at Windsor Castle.

The type of cancer has not yet been specified, with the princess stating that the news had come as a ‘huge shock’. It comes days after she and Prince William were pictured smiling after leaving her favorite farm shop, Adelaide Cottage, in Windsor last Saturday.

‘Terrible news. I wish the Princess of Wales a full recovery,” Gary Lineker wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The Football Association also wrote on X: ‘Our thoughts are with the Princess of Wales, the Prince of Wales and their family. We send our very best wishes to the Princess for a full recovery.”

“Only prayers and love for the full and speedy recovery of the Princess of Wales.”

Former US Open champion Justin Rose extended his well wishes to the Princess, writing on X: ‘Thoughts and prayers are with the Princess of Wales and her family at this very difficult time. The entire country will wish her a full and speedy recovery.”

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan said: ‘We are all thinking of you and all your family xxx.’

Speaking during the video, which was filmed by BBC Studios and shared by HuffPost, she said: ‘In January I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time my condition was thought to be non-cancerous.

‘The operation was successful. However, tests after the operation revealed that cancer was present.’

“My medical team therefore recommended that I undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” she explained.

‘This obviously came as a huge shock, and William and I have done everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.’

She added: “As you can imagine, this has taken time. It took me time to recover from major surgery before I could start my treatment.

‘But most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that suits them, and to reassure them that I will be fine.’

“As I told them, I am doing well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal, in my mind, body and spirit.
