Princess Mary of Denmark looks stunning as she touches down in Sydney

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark landed in Sydney late Thursday evening, her first official visit to Australia in 10 years.

The Hobart-born royal, 51, is back on home soil to meet with Danish representatives involved in Australia’s ‘green transition’, while also visiting several Danish-led sustainability projects.

Mary looked every bit like a style icon as she arrived on a private jet.

The fashionable royal looked chic in a black tee and loose-fitting trousers as she made her way across the tarmac.

She would certainly shield herself from the bitter cold in the air by donning a beige cardigan under a fitted cream blazer.

Mary completed her look with a lightweight scarf decorated with different shades of polka dots, and donned her reading glasses as she smiled at waiting photographers.

Often praised for her style and grace, the royal family chose to go makeup-free for her arrival, bringing out her flawless beauty.

She wore her dark brown locks back, tied up in a chic chignon and carried a brown tote bag containing her belongings.

Mary was greeted by her security detail on arrival and taken to her accommodation in a sleek black vehicle proudly displaying the Danish flag.

Mary’s climate-focused South Pacific journey began April 23 in Vanuatu, where she met key people leading the island’s reconstruction after it was hit by two cyclones and two earthquakes. She then left for Fiji with the Danish Climate Minister.

Princess Mary’s visit to Down Under will be short-lived, however, as she will be in London for the coronation of King Charles III on May 6.

The last time the Crown Princess was in Australia was last Christmas when she visited her family in Tasmania, but it was not in an official capacity.

She went to her hometown with her husband, Crown Prince Frederick and their four children, Christian, 17, Isabella, 15, and twins Vincent and Josephine, 11.

The family’s Christmas holiday was their first time Down Under in over five years, but Princess Mary was spotted in Melbourne without her family in March 2022 while shopping with her friend and bridesmaid Amber Petty.

Princess Mary and Prince Frederick’s last official visit was in October 2013, when they visited the Sydney Opera House to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Although she was born and raised in Tasmania, Mary moved to Denmark during her courtship with the heir to the Danish throne.

The love story between Princess Mary and Prince Frederik is well documented.

She met her husband by chance at the Sydney pub the Slip Inn during the 2000 Olympics.

After their meeting, Fred – who was in Australia supporting the Danish Olympic sailing team – asked Mary for her phone number and a romance ensued.

“The first time we met, we shook hands. I didn’t know he was the Prince of Denmark. Half an hour later someone came up to me and said, “Do you know who these people are?” Mary revealed in an interview about their meeting.

They maintained a long-distance relationship for a year, with Frederik taking secret trips Down Under before Mary moved to Denmark in 2001 to study Danish at the Studieskolen in Copenhagen.

In early 2003, Frederik’s mother, Queen Margrethe, publicly acknowledged the relationship and the couple announced their engagement at Amalienborg Castle later that year, on 8 October.

Frederik and Mary were married at Copenhagen Cathedral on May 14, 2004, with the newly minted Crown Princess opting for a stunning dress by Danish designer Uffer Frank and a veil first used by Crown Princess Margaret of Sweden in 1905.

Their first child, Prince Christian Valdemar Henri John, was born on October 15, 2005; Princess Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe followed on April 21, 2007.

Nearly four years later, on January 8, 2011, Mary and Frederik welcomed the twins, Princess Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda and Prince Vincent Frederik Minik Alexander, to Copenhagen’s Rigshospitalet.
