Princess Martha Louise of Norway has revealed that her decision to step down from royal duties was filled with “unrest”.
The 51-year-old princess, who describes herself as “spiritual” and claims to be clairvoyant, spoke to the BBC for the first time since announcing in November that she was stepping down from royal duties and admitted it had been a process fraught with “unrest”. ‘.
In an interview with the BBCshe also spoke of the ability to “see things,” a gift she believes she had as a young child.
Asked about her decision compared to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who have also stepped down as senior royals, she spoke of her “amazing” family, which includes King Harald and Queen Sonja, and how the dialogue between them has always remained open.
“What I think has been great throughout this cycle is the conversations we’ve had throughout this cycle,” she said.
“From childhood I remember my father and mother saying (the saying of the king and queen) that we should always stay together. We always have to talk things through, even if it’s hard, we have to put all the cards on the table because we are family and we have to work things out.”
The Norwegian royal family, who is engaged to American businessman Durek Verrett, also discussed how her fiancé’s controversial “views” had contributed to how the public perceived her position in the royal family.
She said, “I think the Norwegian people… have decided that it’s best for me to resign because of his views on things.”
Durek, who describes himself as a “shaman,” was dropped by his publisher shortly after the couple announced their engagement in June 2022 over pseudoscientific claims he made in his book “Spirit Hacking.”

Princess Martha Louise announced her engagement to Durek Verrett, an American businessman, last June
The royal family praised her parents, King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, for always keeping communication channels open and encouraging conversation, even in difficult times.
Among other things, it was claimed that children ‘can get cancer if they are unhappy’.
Durek has also claimed that he once came back from the dead, recovering from a months-long coma, by having his soul “burned out” and has also spoken of having to have a kidney transplant from his sister as a child.
It is unclear why he needed the kidney or how he became wheelchair bound as he has described. The illness that put him in a coma has also not been disclosed.
Elsewhere in the interview, Martha Louise claimed that she first started experiencing psychic premonitions as a child.
She said, ‘When I was little I saw things in you. If you were sad or if you were happy… if your shoulder hurt, my shoulder hurt.
“And I understood that’s a talent and you know, I could help other people. And then the ball started rolling.’
The princess said she decided she wanted to “earn my own money,” which she could only do by giving up her “state money” and paying taxes for the first time in her life.
After giving up her position in the royal family, the princess revealed she has faced “a lot of scrutiny,” especially when taking on new roles.
“Everything you do is a first, that comes out of the box you put it in,” she said, adding that the press inquiry is “ongoing.”
She added that spiritual beliefs like hers are “taboo” in Norway.
Her comments mirrored an interview she gave on Swedish TV in March, in which she claimed she had been “the most criticized of anyone in Norway” for her beliefs.
While sitting down with Anna Hedenmo in Min Sanning — which translates to My Truth — the royal family said she felt she had to take a step back because of the public image.
She said, “I’m probably the one in Norway who’s been criticized the most, I think.”
Elsewhere in the television special, the mother talked about how her ex-husband Ari Behn – who committed suicide in December 2019 – coped with being in the spotlight.
After their wedding in 2002, the royal family said the father of her three children – who made a name for himself as an author – said he didn’t get good reviews for his work.
She added: “His mental health depended a lot on whether he was criticized in the media.
“But I’m not saying it was anyone’s fault. It’s always how you handle criticism. The press started to criticize itself after his death, that maybe they were a bit harsh on him, that he was only criticized and that he was actually a very nice person.’
In June 2022, the newly engaged couple appeared together in a video on Durek’s Instagram account where the American Spirit Guide — whose celebrity clients included Gwyneth Paltrow, Nina Dobrev and James Van Der Beek — hit back at online trolls they’ve dealt with.
He said, “First of all, they don’t want to see a black man in the royal family because there has never been one in the history of the European royal family.
“Second, she’s a woman – it’s different when a royal prince chooses a woman of color because it’s like, ‘oh he’s a man, he can choose whoever he wants.’
“But for a princess to choose a man of color has never been done in history. So it’s really hard for a lot of people to handle that.’
