Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips gives rare insight into his mother’s love of ‘home time with Tim and the family and the dogs’ – as he praises her ‘remarkable’ work ethic
Princess Anne’s son has given a rare insight into his mother’s ‘home time’ in a new interview.
Speak with Sky News AustraliaPeter Phillips lovingly discussed the Princess Royal’s penchant for being with her loved ones amid a hectic schedule that sees her completing “overseas travel within 24 hours.”
The king’s sister – who is often dubbed the ‘hardest working royal’ and carried out 457 royal engagements in 2023 – has been called ‘remarkable’ by her eldest child.
“Her mentality is, ‘Listen, I can go in there, do what we need to do and come back,’” he told the program.
“She really values her time at home and values her time with Tim and the family and the dogs and the horses and that’s a really important part of the structure of her week.
Speaking to Sky News Australia, Peter Phillips lovingly discussed the Princess Royal’s penchant for being with her loved ones amid a hectic schedule that sees her completing ‘overseas travel within 24 hours’.
‘To really relax and achieve some form of normality.’
Peter, 46, director of SEL UK, a boutique sports management company, praised his mother’s tireless work ethic and humble attitude.
‘She still does foreign trips and turns them around in 24 hours – which is quite difficult for most people, it doesn’t matter how old they are, but if you’re in your 70s and doing that.
“She has always kept her head down and continued to support the organizations she wants to support.
“They may not be the most interesting, the most, you know, on-topic as it were – but to her that doesn’t matter.
‘She’s not there, she’s there to support them and help the organizations grow and develop.
“She’s never been one to really worry about how many columns she gets.”
Princess Anne was the hardest-working member of the royal family last year, carrying out 457 royal engagements, 32 more than King Charles.

According to an analysis of public events and official meetings by the Sunday Telegraphthe King ranked second, with 425 engagements, while his wife, Queen Camilla, came fourth with 233. The Duke of Edinburgh came third with 297 engagements.
These engagements include events such as the coronation on May 6 and the King’s state visit to France in September.
The Princess Royal and the King saw their workload increase in 2023, as they took on many of the tasks and assignments previously carried out by Elizabeth II.
In the same interview, Peter revealed that King Charles is in ‘good spirits’ but his recovery is taking ‘a little longer’ than expected.
He said Charles is “extremely frustrated” that he can’t go out and do everything he wants to do.
But Peter added that his uncle is “pragmatic” and knows he needs to “focus on himself” for a while to get better.

Visiting Australia as patron of charity ISPS Handa, he said Charles was “pushing” his staff to allow him to resume more royal duties, contrary to the advice of his medical team.
He told the news station: ‘He’s cheerful, but at the end of the day he’s extremely frustrated.
‘He is frustrated that he cannot move on and do everything he wants.
‘But he is very pragmatic, he understands that there is a period when he really has to concentrate on himself.
“But at the same time, he’s always pushing his staff and everyone – his doctors and nurses – to say, ‘can I do this, can I do that.’
‘I think the overriding message is that he is clearly very keen to get back to some form of normality and is probably frustrated that his recovery is taking a little longer than he would like.’
He added that the Princess of Wales is “remarkable” amid news of her health battle, and said she and William have “got it right” in balancing their public and family lives.
