Prince William becomes a star of the small screen as Kensington Palace releases glossy clip of the royal attending the BAFTAs 2024 solo – while Kate Middleton recovers from surgery
The Prince of Wales became a movie star in his own right when he took center stage in a glossy video filmed at last night’s BAFTAs and shared by Kensington Palace on Instagram.
William, 42, had not planned to attend the event as his wife Kate was recovering from abdominal surgery.
But it was recently announced that he would be making a solo appearance as chairman of the organization – a role he has held since 2010.
As the Prince of Wales, 42, arrived solo for yesterday’s awards ceremony, he apologized for the Princess of Wales’ absence as she continued to recover at their family home following her operation.
Looking dapper in his signature navy blue velvet jacket and bow tie, he told organizers: ‘I’m sorry Catherine isn’t here, she really loves the BAFTAs.’

However, he did not let the loss of his wife stop him from making the most of the evening.
In the official video from Kensington Palace, he was seen happily posing for photos with members of the public as he walked the red carpet.
The royal opened up about his recent stressful time, telling fellow BAFTA attendees that he hasn’t seen some of the films nominated for awards.
These include box office hit Barbie.
William, who has been focusing on his family after his wife’s medical procedure and his father, King Charles’, shock cancer diagnosis, said he had not seen as many of the nominated films as usual.
He admitted he had “other things on my mind.”
Between clips in the short glossy video, William can be seen grinning as he and David Beckham shake hands.
Other moments show the royal family making their way through the building to their seats.

Along the way he speaks to a range of people, including fans and staff, as well as stars of the small and big screen.
Last night’s awards marked the first high-profile royal engagement Prince William has undertaken since his wife’s major surgery and his father’s cancer diagnosis.
Kate underwent surgery at the London Clinic on January 16 and has since returned to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor to be with their three children.
She has been attending the event with William since 2017, last year she made headlines with her daring outfit consisting of a white one-shoulder dress and black elbow gloves.
It was a recycled Alexander McQueen dress that she had made some changes to after wearing it for the first time at the 2019 event.
