Prince William snaps up five Cornish pasties for Kate, George, Charlotte and Louis during his tour of the Isles of Scilly – and says he also enjoyed a morning dip

Prince William couldn’t resist picking up the South West’s most famous savory snack as his tour of the Isles of Scilly continued on Friday – and suggested he take some of the edible souvenirs home for his family.

William, 41, known locally as the Duke of Cornwall, arrived in St Mary’s Harbor by boat after traveling from Tresco, one of the smaller islands, this morning.

The Prince continues his royal duties while the Princess of Wales continues her cancer treatment.

Clearly in good spirits and saying he had already enjoyed a morning swim, the prince was seen disembarking a boat called The Pegasus, carrying the flag of the Duke of Cornwall, as he arrived at the seaport.

Prince William, known as the Duke of Cornwall in the south west, appeared very tempted by the traditional Cornish pasties on sale at the On the Quay cafe in St Mary’s Harbor on Friday as his tour of the Isles of Scilly continued.

The royal, 41, pocketed £27.50 for five of the pies, one for each family member as he chatted to cafe staff Joely Dearman, 22, and Zachariah Fox, 28

There was a small cheer from the crowd of onlookers in the harbor as he entered the dock for the final day of his visit to the South West region.

The prince wore sunglasses, a brown blazer with matching brogues and his favorite navy blue chino trousers as he walked along the waterfront.

He praised the ‘glorious’ weather before strolling to On the Quay cafe, where he bought five traditional pasties for £5.50 each.

He was served by Joely Dearman, 22, and Zachariah Fox, 28, both seasonal workers from North Devon.

“What’s selling fastest this morning?” he asked. When told it was the pasties, the prince was clearly hooked on the idea of buying some, saying: ‘They smell wonderful. It makes your mouth water.’

Outside, he also told the tourists who lined up to greet him that he wished he could stay a little longer, but that he would return home to spend the weekend in Windsor.

“My family is very angry that I’m here without them,” he laughed. “The kids will kill me if I don’t go home later.”

He asked the well-wishers if they were waiting to catch a boat.

‘We’re waiting for you!’ said a woman. “I’m never sure,” William replied.

The Prince also met representatives of local businesses at St Mary’s harbour, the largest of the Isles of Scilly.

The port is managed by the Duchy of Cornwall and is considered the maritime gateway to the islands – a crucial part of the community, which relies on the tourism industry.

It handles passengers and vessels traveling to the Isles of Scilly from ‘Tripper Boats’ and sail training vessels to fishing boats and vessels carrying special cargo deliveries.
