Prince William serves environmentally friendly vegetarian burgers to shocked citizens from a food truck
The Prince of Wales left the public in shock when he made veggie burgers out of a food truck in his latest environmental initiative.
William, 41, joined forces with popular YouTube channel Sorted Food to showcase the work of three of the most recent Earthshot Prize winners.
Through the partnership, they developed the Earthshot Burger, made with Kheyti greenhouse vegetables, cooked on a cleaner burning portable stove and presented in a biodegradable box.
In a new episode now available at YouTube the founders of Sorted Food are invited by Prince William to review and test three of the winners’ innovations – each representing a breakthrough solution to restore our planet – which the team then uses to develop ‘The Earthshot Burger’.
William is seen in a food van in central London with the chefs from Sorted Food, and a diner covers her mouth in shock when she recognizes the prince.
After putting some “Earthshot burgers” on a counter, he said, “Morning everyone, nicely cooked – ready to go.”

William continued, “So, for those of you who don’t know, the Earthshot Prize is there to restore and regenerate the planet.
“Everything you see here is from last year’s winners.
So the box you’re going to eat in is built (by) a company called Notpla and there’s no plastic involved, they’ve come up with a seaweed coating.
“The ingredients in the burger come from a greenhouse in India from a company called Kheyti, and last but not least the way we cook them is on something called Mukuru Clean Stoves, and that was designed by a lady in Kenya who came up with the concept to reduce air pollution.
‘
One of the guests said of seeing the future king: ‘It took my brain three seconds to buffer. Am I dreaming? Did I sleep enough?’ while another said, “I was speechless.”
The chefs created a spicy potato-based burger flavored with garlic, ginger and chilli – with pickled vegetables served in a bun.
Jamie Spafford, co-founder of Sorted Food – known for promoting eco-friendly food solutions, said: ‘Being joined by Prince William in our studio and in the food truck was a real ‘pinch me’ moment – hearing him explain how passionate he is about helping the planet and what the Earthshot Prize does has been incredibly inspiring and has already given us many ideas for future projects to work on with our community.”
This partnership with Sorted Food is part of The Earthshot Prize’s new partnership with YouTube to produce content for the Earthshot channel that inspires users to take action on climate change with stories of urgent optimism from around the world.

Based in the UK, Notpla makes natural and biodegradable food packaging from seaweed and plant extracts to tackle the global challenge of plastic pollution.
The Notpla team recently teamed up with The Earthshot Prize to unveil new Earthshot-branded takeout boxes, which went into production earlier this summer.
The boxes have been delivered at well-known sporting events, such as the 2023 Champions League Final.
Notpla has also entered into a new partnership with The Kia Oval, who have seen their plastic-free packaging solutions delivered to this world-famous cricket ground.

Mukuru Clean Stoves, developed in Kenya by entrepreneur Charlot Magayi, has produced cleaner portable stoves that use biomass as fuel instead of charcoal.
The stoves are made with the aim of protecting the health of women and families in Kenya and the African continent, who are often exposed to air pollution from charcoal stoves.

Finally, Indian start-up Kheyti has developed a Greenhouse-in-a-box to support smallholder farmers and protect their crops from unpredictable elements and destructive pests.
Plants commonly grown in a Kheyti greenhouse, including the vegetables used to make The Earthshot Burger, require 98% less water and yield seven times more crops.
