Prince William honours Sir Ridley Scott for services to the film industry – as Gladiator director joins Lionness Mary Earps and England legend Peter Shilton at Windsor Castle

Prince William today honored Sir Ridley Scott for his services to the film industry at Windsor Castle.

The Gladiator director was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire, with pictures of him proudly receiving his medal from the senior royal.

Also present at the castle today were Lioness Mary Earps and English legend Peter Shilton.

Earps was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire, with the honor in recognition of his services to football.

Prince William will make a two-day visit to his Duchy of Cornwall on Thursday and Friday. This is the first time he has stayed away overnight since his wife Catherine was diagnosed with cancer.

He stood by her side and did the school runs, adjusting his diary accordingly.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry arrived in Britain alone yesterday after flying from California for a ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games in London today.

Prince Harry will not meet his family during his trip to Britain due to the monarch’s “full schedule” but insisted he “hopes to see him soon.”

The prince had hoped to meet his estranged father, the king, during his trip, which follows an earlier short visit in February following Charles’ cancer diagnosis. And Harry’s event was just three miles from where Charles was at Clarence House.

But Harry’s spokesman said yesterday: ‘In response to many questions and ongoing speculation about whether or not The Duke will meet his father this week while in Britain, this will unfortunately not be possible due to the full schedule of His Majesty.

‘The Duke obviously understands his father’s diary with obligations and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.’
