Prince Harry’s red carpet nerves: Duke admitted his heart was racing when he and Meghan Markle stepped out for first glitzy event after Covid: ‘We haven’t done this for a while’
A blink-and-you’ll miss it moment in Prince Harry’s new documentary has revealed how the Duek was nervous when he first hit the red carpet with wife Meghan Markle after Covid restrictions eased.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were filmed arriving at the Salute To Freedom Gala in November 2021 on their new Netflix show The Heart of Invictus.
The event — held at New York’s Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum — marked the couple’s first time taking to the red carpet after pandemic restrictions eased.
The last time the Sussex’ were spotted on the red carpet was on their ‘farewell tour’ in March 2020, where they performed the last of their duties as working royals.
In the documentary, 38-year-old Prince Harry can be heard telling Meghan, “We haven’t done this in a while.”

Meghan then replied, “I know,” comforting her husband as they walked into the museum.
Walking hand in hand, the Duke of Sussex then whispered to his wife, “My heart, I am like . . . digadigadiga,” imitating a rapid heartbeat.
The prince then walked around the room with Meghan and greeted guests at the gala, one of whom can be heard saying, “Two and a half years, we’re back.”
To which Harry then replied, “We’re back,” with a smile on his face.
The documentary then showed Prince Harry in a back room, seemingly trying to calm his nerves before going on stage to read his speech.
The Duke of Sussex took a deep breath, looked around the room and took a long gulp of water before being announced to the crowd.
Harry has finally released his Invictus Games documentary about Netflix this morningas the latest project in the Sussexes’ £80 million deal with the streaming giant.

While Harry looked smart in a tuxedo jacket and bow tie, wore a red poppy and presented his medals.
In his speech, Prince Harry said: ‘Tonight we are here to honor a group of men and women whose lives are defined by service, purpose and, of course, resilience.
“Many of us in this room understand why military personnel often feel isolated after returning home or leaving the military. Will not you?’
Harry is the documentary’s executive producer, and the show is part of the Sussexes’ deal with Netflix – the main output to date of which was last year’s controversial Harry & Meghan documentary, which included a series of swipes at members of included the royal family.
However, the Duchess, 42, features very little in the five-episode series.
In her most prominent moment, Meghan is shown at the opening ceremony of the Games introducing Harry on stage, in footage broadcast live at the time.
