Prince Harry has shared some intimate details about the birth of his two children in his explosive memoir.

Writing in Spare, the 38-year-old Duke of Sussex recalled the “chaos” surrounding the birth of his son Archie on May 6, 2019 at Portland Hospital.

He revealed that he ate Nando’s chicken and admitted to hogging laughing gas from his wife as they listened to Sanskrit songs and followed the recommendations of an Ayurvedic doctor Meghan had consulted.

Harry added that he did not text anyone to announce the birth, and that he and Meghan returned to Frogmore Cottage with Archie within two hours of the birth.

He revealed that the birth of his daughter Lilibet, two years later, in California on June 4, 2021, was a “bliss” and that the couple was calmer than during the birth of their first child, with Harry giving birth to his second son.

He said his wife was 10 days late when she was medically induced at a Portland hospital in May 2019.

He recalled how the couple got into a nondescript car to drive out of Frogmore Cottage without attracting media attention parked outside the property.

Once they arrived at the Portland hospital, the Duke of Sussex revealed that they were taken to a private room via a secret elevator.

During the Duchess’s first labor, Prince Harry described how the couple’s bodyguards bought a Nando’s to take to the hospital. He also remembered using laughing gas to calm her nerves.

He revealed that the laughing gas was meant for his wife, but that he used so much that there was nothing left for her, and the team had to bring another bottle for Meghan.

He recalled Meghan laughing and rolling her eyes as he bounced her on a large purple ball to induce labor.

The couple had decorated Meghan’s hospital room with the same electric candles Harry used for his 2017 proposal, and Meghan suggested they put a framed photo of Princess Diana on the nightstand.

The couple also listened to songs by German artist Deva Premal, who turned Sanskrit mantras into music during the delivery.

As the contractions neared time, Meghan jumped into the tub to deliver and received an epidural to help with labor pain.

Harry recounted how he held Meghan’s hand as she pushed to deliver Archie, revealing that she had a difficult delivery, describing her son’s head as being “tangled up”.

He revealed that he encouraged Meghan to keep pushing to give birth to their son.

When Archie was born, the couple cried after they wrapped the baby in a towel and gave it to Meghan.

Meghan consulted with an Ayurvedic doctor during her pregnancy, a qualified doctor who follows the principles of ancient Indian medicine.

The Duke of Sussex recounted how the practitioner had told the couple that newborns absorb everything they are told in the first minute of their lives, and how the couple told Archie they loved him.

Prince Harry revealed that he did not text anyone to tell them the news of his son’s birth, but instead watched the delivery team checking on him.

He shared that the couple used the same minivan they had used to get to and from the hospital, and that they were at Frogmore Cottage two hours after the birth of their son.

In contrast, Harry said the couple felt “more secure and at ease” attending Lilibet’s delivery two years later.

“What happiness, we said, not having to worry about time, protocols, journalists at the front door,” he wrote.

She recalled how the couple leisurely drove to the hospital, leaving Meghan enough time to buy In-N-Out burgers and fries and fajitas for Meghan.

The Duke of Sussex added that the couple did a viral Baby Mama dance after settling into their hospital room.

The dance, which became popular on TikTok, shows pregnant women and their partners happily rubbing their bellies while singing that they’ve been “pregnant for too long.”

Prince Harry also revealed in the book that he told his wife that he wanted his baby to see his face first.

With the doctor supervising everything, Harry explained how he helped bring his daughter into the world and was overjoyed to meet his second child for the first time.

He then handed it over to Meghan, who later told him that she had “never been so in love with him as I was at that moment”, so that she could be skin-to-skin with her daughter.

Prince Harry recounted how Meghan later told him that she had never been more in love with him than during the birth of their daughter.

He revealed that she shared with him some thoughts that she had written in a journal at the time, which she said she read as a declaration of love and a renewal of their wedding vows.

Throughout the notes, Meghan wrote that Harry handed over Lilibet and told her that keeping her safe had been “everything”, and that Harry was not a spare, in a nod to the title of her memoir.
