Didn’t get the memo? Five times Harry and William’s diaries have clashed this year – as the Sussexes make major Netflix announcement just hours after Princess Kate’s personal cancer update

Now that the Waleses and Sussexes have been operating separately for years, there is a good chance that times will clash, as the families no longer keep a joint diary.

It came as no surprise, then, when a teaser for Harry and Meghan’s latest Netflix project was released just hours after Kate’s intimate video about her cancer recovery.

The clash was one of several occasions this year when Harry and William’s teams, or their extended projects, have made announcements at similar times.

There is no evidence to suggest that the release of the Netflix video was planned around Kate’s video, or that other clashes between them were intentional.

However, here MailOnline looks at some recent examples of diary conflicts that could have been avoided if the brothers had not become so estranged:

Kate recovers from cancer and Harry’s new Netflix project

Archewell Productions, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s company, have been working on a new Netflix documentary called Polo, which follows the world’s top athletes.

The series won’t air until December, but it was announced yesterday on Netflix’s social media, just hours after Kensington Palace released Kate’s emotional video.

Prince William appeared alongside the princess in the clip to celebrate the end of her gruelling chemotherapy treatment, amid an extremely difficult year for the family.

The Waleses’ music video was shot in Norfolk and features their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – as well as Kate’s parents.

But just hours later, a teaser for Polo appeared on Netflix, with the following announcement: ‘Polo is a new documentary series that follows the best players from around the world and offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced world of sport.’

It added that the project was “from Archewell Productions and Boardwalk Pictures and premiered exclusively on Netflix in December.”

A source told MailOnline that Netflix had announced a ‘multi-title sports series’, with Polo one of several projects.

It was also emphasized that this was not a trailer, but the release of a first look at the series and the announcement of a premiere month and an official title for the series.

American Riviera Orchard and Diana Legacy

The Sussexes raised eyebrows in March when they made two announcements that clashed with Williams’ speech at an awards ceremony honoring Princess Diana.

The Prince of Wales attended the Diana Legacy Awards at the Science Museum in London, while Harry attended virtually from his home in California.

William took to the stage with the song Thundertrack by AC/DC, which he called ‘George’s song’, before telling the audience that he and the Princess of Wales express Diana’s legacy through their work.

The Duke of Sussex addressed the group of winners, with his office later releasing an edited clip of the conversation, recapping the best moments.

His appearance, which was told by winners he was ā€œmissedā€ in the UK, also came just hours after Meghan launched her latest venture: luxury lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard.

While William was still speaking and handing out the awards, the Sussexes then announced the winners of their $100,000 NAACP Archewell Foundation Digital Civil Rights Award.

King cannot see Harry, but William gets his old regiment

Buckingham Palace announced that William would become head of Harry’s old regiment, just an hour after the Duke of Sussex said his father the King would not see him during his trip to the UK in May.

When Harry arrived in the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, he said his father had other commitments and so they could not see each other in person.

Harry’s spokesman confirmed that it was “regrettably not possible” for the two to meet “due to His Majesty’s busy schedule” as Harry returned to public duties following treatment for cancer.

And just two hours later, the palace announced that William would be appointed Colonel Commander in Chief of the Air Army Corps, Harry’s former regiment.

Buckingham Palace also announced that William and Charles would attend a joint engagement, with the heir apparent being appointed Colonel-in-Chief.

Before Prince Harry decided to step back from royal life four years ago, it was always thought he would take on the role that would see him command the regiment with which he toured Afghanistan until 2014.

William and Harry will not have a reunion in New York

The announcement that Harry would be making a solo trip to New York this month raised eyebrows, while it was also rumoured that William would be there at the same time.

A spokesman for the Duke said he would be “in the city to further some of his fundraising and philanthropic initiatives”.

The visit will take place during the High-Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly from 23 to 27 September and the Climate Week from 22 to 29 September.

It was also rumored that William would be in New York at the time for the third annual Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, which was scheduled to take place at The Plaza Hotel on September 24.

Sources have since confirmed that William will not be attending the Earthshot event and that there have been no changes to his plans following the announcement in Harry’s diary.

Harry’s Invictus Games and William’s return to duties

Harry released a video promoting the Invictus Games last week, on September 5 ā€“ the same day William returned to royal duties after the summer holidays.

The Duke spoke candidly about ā€œhealing and saving livesā€ in a clip he shared with X through the official account for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025.

Harry’s video emerged as William carried out his first royal engagement since the summer holidays, visiting an exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
